Minimizing the stress during terminal procedures is a goal both to ensure maximum possible animal welfare and to enable optimal ex-vivo analysis. At the HMGU, we are pioneering non-invasive imaging methods that can image physiological and biochemical parameters of zebrafish together with whole-brain activity. Our systems have pushed the envelope at several fronts, from capturing neurobehavioral dynamics from freely swimming larvae [1] to single-snapshot volumetric imaging at high speeds using both transgenic fluorescence [2] or synthetic optoacoustic contrast [3] and even imaging brains of adult non-transparent Zebrafish [4]. These methods will be complemented with ex-vivo imaging to provide additional information using our volumetric multimodal micro- and mesoscopes combined with established histopathological and -omics methods with the final goal of providing solid data for the assessment of pain and distress during final procedures.
Qualifikationen Your Qualifications
- A degree in Veterinary Medicine
- Willingness to work with experimental animals
- High motivation, scientific curiosity and ability to work independently
- Programming capabilities (e.g. Matlab, C/C++)
- Team player skills and enthusiasm to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
